Coleman 2-Pole Sun Shade Reviews
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Good shelter if you not at the Beach, By LC "Tigerliluvsbooks" (Brooklyn, NY,USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Coleman 2-Pole Sun Shade (Sports) The shelter is multifunctional in that it can be set up like a tent, a lean-to, or a canopy with some extra poles(haven't tried this one yet). The problem is this is not a one person, albeit, sometimes not even a two-person operation. And on a beach with winds of as little as 15 mph it become an exercise in perseverance. Actually had to bring some rocks to anchor this down,(the wind kept pulling up the anchors up from the sand). Sand bags might help. But frankly anything less than perfect, windless weather makes setting it up a challenge,(undo-able in less than 10 minutes). The fabric is excellent and the UV factor really shields from the sun. Once set up, functions great, used it as a lean-to in Acadia National Park on their beach front. That's why I only gave it a 3 star. Would have loved to have given it a 5 star, but its impractical for a family of 4 (2 adults-2 sm. children) or a single individual or even a couple without hassling. Probably for a group of 3-4 adults it... Some sort of shelter from sun and rain is often necessary for a comfortable time. Quality is fairly good, though it would be better with thinner, higher-quality lines and with telescoping poles. But those would likely raise the price also. Surprisingly it didn't come with stakes, which are necessary for set-up.It is just barely big enough for two to sit or cook/eat, but that is what I want. Larger, and it would be more bulky to transport and harder to set up. A previous reviewer downgraded this because of set-up difficulty, but that is inherent with this sort of thing, especially in the wind. It is really a two-man job, though not too difficult for one in non-windy conditions. I had no difficulty setting it up myself on the lawn. With high wind, though, it can be impossible even for two, but that is not the fault of the product. Solid performer in all kinds of wind, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Coleman 2-Pole Sun Shade (Sports) We just completed a campout over the weekend, with 25-35 mph winds gusting to 45 mph. The canopy held the whole time, deforming under gusts, but holding true. I watched some other canopies fold over in the campground.Of course, the gusts blew some hot ash on the canopy, and now I have a repair to do... I would recommend a few good stakes (at least 4, attached to the pole guys). I used these stakes - Sierra Designs Y Tent Stakes 6 Pack), but other heavy duty stakes would work well too. I used some basic stakes for the other guys, and bend them in the strong winds. It takes quite a bit to set up, vs. a EZ-UP or similar. You must stake down all the sides, which means 8 stake placements (2 on each pole, plus 4 stretching the canopy). I'm definitely a fan, and would highly recommend. |
